The Thistle Wood Burner
As a returning customer to Burned by Design, our client had already experienced the quality craftsmanship and artistic innovation of our bespoke wood burners. So when they requested a unique garden fire pit in the shape of the Scottish Thistle, it was a challenge that Alex was excited to take on. The final product is a spectacular piece of art that showcases our brand's expertise, flexibility, and creativity.
The Scottish Thistle has long been a symbol of bravery, courage, and loyalty in the face of treachery. According to legend, during a Viking invasion, a sleeping Scottish army was saved from ambush by an invading Norseman who stepped on a thistle and cried out in pain, alerting the Scots to the danger. From then on, the thistle has been a symbol of Scotland's resilience and strength.
The Design Process
To create a wood burner in the shape of a thistle, Alex had to start with a sturdy external framework that would support the weight of the finished product. Each petal was then individually shaped by hand, creating the distinctive bulb-shaped flower. The intricate details of the thistle were carefully crafted to ensure the final product was as realistic as possible.
The Construction
The wood burner was constructed with a drawbridge hatch for easy access to fire building and cleaning. The finished product was coated in a high-temperature clear lacquer, ensuring it would withstand the heat of the fire and the elements of the outdoors.
Dimensions
The Thistle wood burner is an impressive 100 x 130 x 100cm in size, making it a statement piece in any garden or outdoor space. Its unique shape and design make it stand out from traditional fire pits and wood burners.
We love to receive requests and commissions that are somewhat out of the ordinary, whether from new or returning clients, and this one was no different. It's the kind of challenge that Alex lives for. Get in touch if you have your own crazy ideas on what you'd like to see made.
